Practical; the word is often looked upon as the opposite or the enemy of creativity.  Small is usually connected with cramped, and simple is cast as bare or boring.  So when a past client tasked us with designing a small, simple, and practical Lake Keowee house as a weekend getaway we actually got really excited. We see an opportunity and we know that by being practical a project can also be an uncluttered, modern home where every space maximizes meaning.  The small, one-level footprint allowed us to incorporate simple forms and strip away underutilized rooms in favor of a unified gathering space that embraces connection and uses glass to bring the space and light of the surroundings into the home.  The aesthetic result is a celebration of material and form…the practical result is a streamlined construction schedule, a reasonable budget, and a lake home where everything has purpose.
